Here is a look at the runningbacks for the 2010 Seminoles. One position that Florida State is set is the running back position.
Jermaine Thomas, a junior tailback out of Jacksonville's First Coast High School, led the Seminoles in 2009 with 832 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, highlighted by four 100-yard performances, which included 121 yards and two scores against West Virginia. Careerwise, Thomas has posted 1342 yards.
Despite the big numbers put up by Thomas, he is locked in a serious battle for playing time. Sophomore Chris Thompson came out of spring practice on top of the tailback depth chart. During his freshman season, Thompson ran for 120 yards on 23 carries.
Ty Jones also made a statement during the 2009 season as he made three starts and appeared in six games and posted 251 yards, which included a 108 yard performance in FSU's impressive road win at seventh ranked BYU. He was second on the team in rushing touchdowns with five.
Sophomore Lonnie Pryor proved to be versatile in 2009 as he was the only freshman on the offense to appear in all of the games last season. Pryor made four starts at fullback last season but also provides a big-back option for the Noles. He rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns and had 10 receptions for 132 yards and one score.
During the recruiting season, Florida State added depth when they signed junior college transferl Debrale Smiley, a 235-pounder, which provides the Noles with a powerback capable of hammering out short third-down conversions.
